NEW! Guide to the Geology of Bempton Cliffs created by YGS for RSPB

It is with great pleasure that we're able to inform you of the creation of a field guide by the YGS, on behalf of RSPB, the geology of Bempton Cliffs outlining the geological setting of the iconic chalk cliffs at RSPB Bempton Nature Reserve.

Hard copies of the flyer will be available in the Seabird Centre at RSPB Bempton Cliffs from January 2019.

Further details regarding RSPB Bempton Cliffs can be found on the RSPB website, including information on updated bird sightings throughout the year.

19th International Conference on the Carboniferous & Permian

Being organised by a YGS member, the 19th International Conference may be of interest to anyone interested in the geology of Yorkshire and Northern England, with both of these geological periods playing an important role in the geology of the region and the UK as a whole.

Geologists' Association Annual Conference 2019: 18th - 20th October 2019

"Geological Resources in the North West - Past, Present and Future"

Registration is now open for the Geologists' Association's Annual Conference 2019, to be held at University of Manchester and Manchester Museum.

The event will be hosted by the geological groups of Lancashire, Liverpool, Manchester, North Staffordshire & North Wales, focusing on the geology of the North West and surrounding areas, covering topics such as mineral resources, energy, mining (both past and future prospects), building stones, geoconservation.

The event includes a tour of Manchester Museum's Minerals and Palaeontology section on Friday 18th October 2019, a conference dinner on Saturday 19th October 2019 and several field trips on Sunday 20th October 2019.

BGS memoirs now freely available to view online!

Since April 2017 the British Geological Survey have made an extensive selection of current and historic editions of their publications available to view online, including memoirs and regional guides.
