If you wish to join a waiting list please email Secretary@yorksgeolsoc.org.uk

A walk starting at Deepgrove Wyke to examine the stratigraphy and ammonite fauna of the Mulgrave Shale Member and Alum Shale Member of the Whitby Mudstone Formation. The ammonite fauna includes members of the Dactylioceratidae and Hildoceratidae and isolated specimens of Cornaptychus. Jet, Phylloceras, Gyrosteus bone and ichthyosaur bone as well as rare Loligosepia have also been found at the location. At the start of the visit, examples of hand specimens will be shown and discussed.

NB. This requires beach access via steep steps and so attendees will need to be reasonably agile. Over the winter the pathway down the cliff has become unstable in places. Registrants will be sent details of meeting location prior to the event.

Please wear appropriate footwear, outdoor clothing and a packed lunch.

Under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
