Fossil fossick at Mappleton

Yorkshire Geology Month

Fossil fossick at Mappleton

Mappleton, East Yorkshire

Event by Hull Geological Society

Beach walk and fossil hunt led by Brenda and Jack Almond. Please note timings are estimates. For details please visit Hull Geological Society’s website below.

Meet at 10am at Mappleton new carpark on the road side on the main road from Withernsea to Mappleton. It is a cash or email payment. There is a little bit of a decline before reaching the beach.

As we reach the beach we will come to the sea armour, and looking at the positioning of this you will be able to understand how much the cliffs are eroding and have eroded. As we walk along the beach, we will be finding various erratics and hopefully a variety of fossils (ammonites etc.). Be aware that old munitions (practice rounds) sometimes wash out of the cliffs, so please don’t hit them with your hammer.
