Deepgrove Wyke, (Sandsend) Yorkshire Coast

A walk starting at Deepgrove Wyke to examine the stratigraphy and ammonite fauna of the Mulgrave Shale Member and Alum Shale Member of the Whitby Mudstone Formation. The ammonite fauna includes members of the Dactylioceratidae and Hildoceratidae and isolated specimens of Cornaptychus. Jet, Phylloceras, Gyrosteus bone and ichthyosaur bone as well as rare Loligosepia have also been found at the location. At the start of the visit, examples of hand specimens will be shown and discussed.

NB. This requires beach access via steep steps and so attendees will need to be reasonably agile. Please wear appropriate footwear, outdoor clothing and a packed lunch.
